RFID passport wardriving Obviously the workaround is to stay away from Fisherman's Wharf. Zipping past Fisherman's Wharf, Chris Paget's scanner downloaded to his laptop the unique serial numbers of two pedestrians' electronic U.S. passport cards embedded with radio frequency identification, or RFID, tags. Within an hour, he'd "skimmed" four more of the new, microchipped PASS cards from a distance of 20 feet. "There's a reason you don't wear your Social Security number across your T-shirt," Albrecht says, "and beaming out your new, national RFID number in a 30-foot radius would be far worse." But Gigi Zenk, a spokeswoman for the Washington state Department of Licensing, says Americans "aren't that concerned about the RFID" in a time when "tracking an individual is much easier through a cell phone." Nutritionist Recommendation
I'm looking for a nutritionist to guide me through an elimination diet to identify any food allergies or (more likely) food sensitivities that lead to asthma, psoriasis, and some other similar autoimmune issues. I'm aware a number of nutritionists work through phone consultation. My ideal would be a nutritionist who could see me once or twice as well as provide consultation by phone. Even more ideal would be that the nutritionist would be on the peninsula, somewhere between San Mateo and Sunnyvale. However, the North Bay into Sonoma and Napa would be fine for a couple of appointments with the right practitioner. I'd love to hear success stories, even null result stories if you consider it a success (you and the nutritionist determined your concerns were not primarily food related). If you're comfortable sharing cost and duration of treatments, and any medical insurance coverage stories, that would help me plan. (I'm assuming i'll be off-insurance but can use my medical flex dollars). If you have frustration stories, i'm happy to read those, too. Thanks for your help! If you want to email me via my profile address or message via the LJ message system, that is fine. |

On traveling
I believe that I can fit all of my possessions into my luggage with only minimal folding of spacetime. We'll check this hypothesis tomorrow morning. Crud, it is tomorrow morning. See ya from PDX, y'all. |

Translation help?
Sorry about this again! Just wanted to make sure there weren't any MAJOR errors in my email to my french exchange. It's really short so it won't take long :) thank you! ( short translation ) Also, one last question. When she wrote back to me in French she put "tu veut". I always thought it was tu veux?! Lol it's such a simple question but I googled it and it said "tu veux" but she's French so surely it must be acceptable to write tu veut too? Thank you! |

This is such an old question.
I've had this problem before, and solved it before, but lord help me I can't seem to get my google-fu to work, nor searching the Ubuntu forums. So, I've installed a fresh version of Ubuntu Jaunty. The problem is (this time) that I can't get more than one program to use audio. If I have Amarok running, I can't listen to youtube videos(etc). If I have videos in firefox running I can't hear Amarak and it gives me a The audio device "X" does not work falling back to "Y" (and I still can't hear anything) I swear I've had this as an issue in the past and solved it, but I can't figure out wtf the problem is. My apologies in advance. Current Mood: tiredCurrent Music: Auto-Tune the News #6: Michael Jackson. drugs. Palin. |

Spicy Garlic shrimp
Here is the original linkThe goods: Lime juice from one fresh lime 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 clove garlic pressed 36 peeled shrimp 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper 1/4 teaspoon dried parsley flakes 1/4 teaspoon paprika 1/8 teaspoon dried thyme 1/8 teaspoon onion powder Directions Mix all dry seasons together in small bowl. Preheat a large skillet over medium heat. Add oil to the pan. When oil is heated, stir in garlic. Immediately add shrimp. Squeeze entire fresh lime juice into pan over shrimp. Sprinkle entire seasoning blend over shrimp. Saute shrimp for 5-8 minutes. This dish has a kick to it! Number of Servings: 2 ======================================== == My two cents: I modified this to leave off the parsley, I used 1/4 cup SWEET LIME JUICE and I kabobed it with our bbq. I used all the olive oil the spices and garlic and I marinated the shrimp in all the goodies for about an hour. Then I stuck them on kabobs and depending on the heat of your bbq I did about 5 minutes on each side. Shrimp typically when they curl and are white they're done - if they are still relaxed and a little floppy they are not finished cooking yet. I imagine the original receipie would be great with some pasta. It's a fair amount of prep work for those who love to cheat in the kitchen, but if you have a BBQ to go to this summer, and whip some of the spices and marinade and get the shrimp kabobbed, you can take it to the bbq and leave it for the host to cook and have bragging rites to what awesome shrimp you made. :D Note: on the spice level, I am a spice WHIMP I get mild.. one star Indian food.... this did not throw me, it was nice and garlicy with a tiny kick. |

IT ARE CATURDAY
This morning I was helping Cindy pack up her house, when someone knocked on the door. The newcomer was their next-door neighbor, who held two tiny kittens in her arms. She'd found them outside Cindy's house, and wondered if they belonged there. They didn't, but we agreed to take charge of them anyway. A quick review of available resources was discouraging. Dove Lewis would take them only for emergencies, and would charge a lot of money. The Oregon Humane Society, it turns out, "does not take walk-ins" (whatever that means), and apparently also wants $100 to take strays. They referred me to the Multnomah County Animal Control commission, which would be happy to take them, but which, the rather callous phone operator informed me, would almost certainly kill them - "We get about 60 animals a day, we adopt out two a day - it's not hard to do the math." Meanwhile the kittens were climbing in and out of boxes and looking in the mirror and playing with the metal things on my belt. No. So we ended up taking them to Cindy's friend Aviva, who knows how to handle these things, and agreeing to handle the process of finding permanent homes. Cindy can't take them - she doesn't know where she'll be living in two weeks. I can't take them - my apartment doesn't allow pets, and it wouldn't really be professional for an office anyway. We'll be hitting the usual web spots. Pictures forthcoming. |
